Agriturismo
QuerciaGrossa: Cortona, Toscana
L’Agriturismo
anche all’edificio. Il mezzadro, oltre
a coltivare i terreni circostanti, allevava
interamente costruito in mattoni in cotto.
Maggiori

QuerciaGrossa:
Cortona, Tuscany
The
country house called “Querciagrossa” (literally
meaning “big oak”) is a perfectly
restored building dating back to the end
of the XIX century. The farmhouse was the
house of the mètayer (or sharecropper)
and his family which was working in the estate
called “Poder Nuovo”, which was
then the name for both the property and the
country house. The sharecropper was tilling
the soil and breeding the best livestock
of the Valdichiana area: cattle of the Chianina
variety, sheep, and pigs of the “Cinta
Senese” type.
The building consists of two floors, with
a rectangular base, entirely built with bricks.
The stairs are built with stones and there
are rafters made of
wood. All these construction materials are typically used in the country houses
in Valdichiana.
The country house is made up of a large and suggestive reception and of five
apartments furnished with typical Tuscan furniture and with every comfort.
The
Agriturismo (Italian for country house) is
located in the centre of Valdichiana, close
to Cortona and Montepulciano, in a place
between the locations of Cignano and Chianacce.
The country house lies in a beautiful, dominant
hilly location; it is at the top of the valley,
where sunflowers, wheat, corn are grown and
where there are vineyards of the “Merlot” quality
of grapes. From the house and the garden
there is a panoramic view of the country,
with old houses, cypresses, olive groves
and amazing colours which can be found in
the land and the inspirational sky. A large
swimming pool and a terrace in the garden
are available for the guests. Olive trees,
oaks, fruit trees and cypress give shade
in the sunny garden which is divided by grassland
and elegant gravely areas. The garden can
be used also during the summer nights thanks
to a light system..
