Description

Le More apartments were constructed at the beginning of the 20th century, by Roman nobility in the little village of Ossaia. The town is 3.2 miles from Cortona, on the last hill that divides Tuscany and Umbria.

Ossaia has a rich history.  Its name ('Bone yard') is taken from the famous battle between the Romans and Carthaginian forces of Hannibal, which took place near the Trasimeno lake in 217 BC.  Today, one can admire the remains of a palatial Roman villa from the Imperial period.  The Villa Romana belongs to an archaeological park that also includes the famous Etruscan tombs of the Cortonese territory.  Furthermore, Ossaia is the birthplace of Friar Elia Coppi, an architect and disciple of Saint Francis, whose architecture came to define the style of Franciscan churches.  From the Renaissance until the Unification, Ossaia was valuable checkpoint between the Grand Duchy of Tuscany and the Church state.

Guests at Le More will enjoy many opportunities for walking, biking, or even horse-back riding.  Those who explore the hills will find olive trees and scrub pines, while the valley offers a magnificent glimpse of the Trasimeno lake.
Five minutes away by car, the Trasimeno lake (http://www.lagotrasimeno.net/) has many different walkways.  From the docks of either Passignano or Tuoro sul Trasimeno, one can take a ferry to the islands of Polvese, Minore, or Maggiore, or simply visit the tiny Umbrian villages to discover the ancient culinary traditions of the local fishermen.

The apartments are all independent, and each includes hot water, light, gas, heating, and internet access.  Each apartment consists of 2 bedrooms, a living room, a kitchen (with dishwasher), a bathroom and a laundry room.  Sheets and towels are provided and replaced weekly. Surrounding the apartments is a garden for picnics and barbeque. Upon arrival, guests will find the kitchen stocked with snacks and some welcome treats.
